...that access to certain services remains difficult for some seniors on the Plateau?
Based on the study "Living on the Plateau: A Needs Assessment of Seniors" (2026). [link]
The survey results highlight several important issues:
- 28% of respondents have difficulty accessing health care, making it the main issue identified;
- 15% mention a lack of appropriate cultural or community activities;
- 10% report challenges related to public transportation.
On the other hand, some local services are generally easy to access, including grocery stores (8%), banking services (7%) and pharmacies (4%).
One encouraging finding is that 59% of respondents do not experience any difficulty accessing services.
When difficulties are reported, they are mainly attributed to a lack of available services (70%) or the distance to services (29%), rather than individual barriers.
These results highlight two important areas for supporting the well-being of seniors on the Plateau: access to health care and opportunities to take part in an active community life.
