Reflecting on ARP’s milestone achievements

As June begins, I am pleased to remind you of the highlight activities organized by the ARP. I will thus recall the "Quartier Fleuri" Contest, the babysitting network, and the neighborhood reforestation project in the spring of 1996. Anecdotally, I will also briefly revisit the development of the Logo with illustrations of the various proposals on which the CA had to decide.

The "Quartier Fleuri" Contest, under the auspices of Monique Ferlatte/Paiement and her collaborators, ran from early June until September, when the results of the 3 best arrangements were revealed during the Corn Roast. The contest was conducted under 3 criteria:

  1. The placement of plants/shrubs/flowers, the shape of the flower beds, and their framing of the house;
  2. Harmony: a well-balanced choice of plants in terms of height/size, shape, and their evolution throughout the summer until early autumn;
  3. The arrangement of colors, foliage, and the health of the plants. If present, the placement of objects in the arrangement (e.g., large rock, bench, fountain, etc.) should be well harmonized with the overall design.

The organizers of this activity toured the neighborhood repeatedly over the 3 months of the contest to evaluate the progress of the arrangements and take notes.

The babysitting network was quickly suggested, among others by Monique Ferlatte/Paiement and Sonia Sabourin, and it offered in the journal editions the names and contact details of qualified young babysitters.

In the spring of 1996, Pierre Chénier, then the neighborhood councilor, proposed a reforestation project for the Plateau and Manoir-des-Trembles sectors (then Quartier Lafontaine) in close collaboration with the 2 associations that had to organize and coordinate the distribution of trees to residents. Even though various construction entrepreneurs were required to plant a tree per sold residence, Mr. Chénier managed to offer 500 young maples to further reforest the two sectors under his responsibility. These trees are now mature after nearly 30 years, "oxygenate" our environment, and enhance the beauty of the Plateau and Manoir des Trembles.

In the fall of the same year, the City, in conjunction with the Commission Hull, ville en santé, awarded the two associations the prestigious Golden Apple Merit Award 1996.

Finally, anecdotally, I return briefly to the adoption of the ARP Logo since the photos were not available during my second commemorative article. It is thus 6 possible logos on which the CA had to decide to arrive by a strong majority at the choice of no. 3.

I wish you a magnificent summer filled with family and friend gatherings, and great vacations under the banner of prudence! I will return in August with more...

Best regards,

Marc Jacques Girard,

Co-founder president of ARP
