Community meeting on neighbourhood safety

Community meeting on neighbourhood safety

On June 16, Municipal Councillor Bettyna Bélizaire held a community meeting on neighbourhood safety at the Plateau Community Centre. Several residents, representatives from the SPVG, and the ARP took part.

The discussions focused on residents' concerns, including emerging serious crime, the sense of safety, road safety, youth gatherings, vandalism, police visibility, as well as issues related to mental health and substance use. The SPVG also reminded participants of the importance of reporting incidents and filing complaints, as intervention priorities are largely based on the reports received.

While the data presented showed an overall decrease in crime between 2024 and 2025, participants highlighted the need for more detailed and regularly shared information to better understand how safety issues are evolving in the neighbourhood.

The ARP thanks Councillor Bélizaire and the SPVG for this initiative and will continue to work with police services, the City of Gatineau, and municipal elected officials to follow these issues and represent residents' concerns in the Plateau.
