On July 9, 2024, Gatineau's municipal council adopted a by-law authorizing an expenditure and a loan of $227,800,000 for the construction of the multifonctionnal centre
The multifunctional centre will be located on a vacant lot adjacent to Boulevard du Plateau, near the shopping center. The Centre includes four National Hockey League-size rinks, with six dressing rooms and 300-seat bleachers at each rink. In addition, the Centre will house two double gymnasiums, a multi-purpose hall, a multi-sports hall, universal locker rooms, a three-lane running track, a classroom and a multi-purpose hall with kitchen. There will also be administrative spaces, storage rooms, a 500-space multi-storey car park with rooftop sports courts, and a large terrace.
The centre will be accessible to people with reduced mobility, with inclusive changing rooms, and one of the ice rinks will be designed for adapted sports. The centre will also feature bicycle and pedestrian paths, as well as secure bicycle parking. The centre will be certified LEED Gold.
Groundbreaking is scheduled for spring 2025.
