On February 18, 2025, the Gatineau City Council approved the project to convert a section of the Star Cité cinema building into an Avril grocery store.
Located in the large commercial complex, the western section of the existing Star Cité building will be divided into two distinct commercial spaces, and the western section will be fully renovated to house the Avril grocery store.
The project involves expanding the existing building along the front, right side, and rear facades, modifying the exterior cladding, replacing the existing Star Cité sign, and installing three new signs. The project also includes the development of a terrace located in the right lateral courtyard (west side) with a landscaped area nearby.
A canopy will be built above the entrance to the Avril grocery store to provide protection from the elements. It's worth noting that the Star Cité cinema was built in the Plateau commercial complex in 1999, which is just over 25 years ago.
Construction work is expected to begin this spring, with the grocery store opening in 2026.
