Big changes are coming to boulevard du Plateau. Over the summer, crews carried out sewer, aqueduct and utility work between rue de l'Automne and rue de l'Astre to prepare the ground for Zénith, a large-scale residential development.
Led by Gérik Construction in collaboration with Solico Construction, the project will bring 760 rental units to the area, with construction expected to begin in 2026.
The City of Gatineau gave the green light on September 24, 2024, approving a residential plan of up to 780 units for this sector (Phase 70 C). It will feature six multi-family buildings of 7 to 10 storeys, each housing more than 100 apartments.
Beyond the buildings themselves, the project is designed with a "distinctive architecture" and a central landscaped area, along with 175 new trees to be planted on boulevard du Plateau and throughout the site.
Mobility improvements are also on the agenda: land along boulevard du Plateau will be transferred to the City to allow for upgrades, including new traffic lights across from the project's west entrance.
Housing diversity is part of the plan, too. About 10% of the units (76 apartments) will be considered affordable housing. Parking will include more than 800 spaces, most of them underground, along with 70 bicycle racks, 8 car-sharing spaces, and 17 spots for people with reduced mobility.
