As you may know, the community garden at Parc du Shamal is still in development, but we're getting closer! This long-term project began 4 years ago and is taking shape step by step, thanks to collaboration between ARP volunteers, volunteers from established gardens in the neighborhood, and municipal representatives from both the district and the City of Gatineau's Recreation, Sports and Community Development Commission.
Since last summer, we've made tremendous progress with administrative procedures, and we anticipate that the next steps will materialize soon. The City of Gatineau has been supporting our project for over 3 years now and facilitated the construction of the fence that was installed in fall 2023.
This collective garden project aims not only to provide gardening space to more gardeners in the North Plateau neighborhood but also to offer knowledge-sharing workshops to make gardening more accessible and enjoyable for a broader segment of the Plateau community.
Collective gardens differ from community gardens as they don't have individual plots but rather large collective areas where both tasks and produce are shared equitably among the group. We'll emphasize knowledge sharing and mutual support.
