As soon as Halloween ends, department stores flood us with Christmas decoration suggestions. "Annoying and a bit too early!" some might say! I completely agree, but I'll make no exception with this article by talking about the Christmas Activity, as I'm reserving my last commemorative December article for ARP's Recognition and Merit Awards.
Getting back to the Christmas celebration, the activity was initiated in December 1997, the year the first elementary school opened in the Plateau. In partnership with the school administration and the City, the event was held in the gymnasium. Finally, we had an indoor gathering place!
A group of musicians, face painting stands, soft drinks, and chips stations set the mood... and Santa's arrival crowned it all. As for the gifts: participants were invited to bring a present (valued between $10 and $20), and each of these was distributed to the children present.
Some 200 to 300 people attended the celebration, which ended with the traditional cake offered by Councillor Pierre Chénier.
I shouldn't forget to mention 2 other activities held in July that I forgot to tell you about. These were the Bike Rally, which followed a route within the neighborhood and surrounding bike paths, and the Treasure Hunt, which was conducted using geographical clues and various landmarks. Each of these activities gathered about sixty participants.
